Ara: History Untold

UI/UX Designer

Ara: History Untold is a historical grand strategy game where players guide a civilization through the ages, balancing diplomacy, economics, warfare, and cultural development. I joined the project during its final year of development, contributing across a wide range of interface systems as gameplay continued to evolve, including HUD redesigns, onboarding, act transitions, visual exploration, and overall UX polish, with a focus on refining the player experience and helping prepare the game's UI for release.

User Interface

Working alongside the design and engineering teams, I contributed to many of the game’s core player-facing systems, adapting designs and implementations as priorities shifted late in development to support new gameplay requirements while maintaining a cohesive player experience.

Visual Exploration

Before landing on the shipped visual language, I explored a direction that leaned into the purple tones from the game’s marketing and key art, applying that palette across the HUD, diplomacy, city management, and paragon interfaces. These concepts shaped the visual identity conversations that followed.

New Game Flow

Starting a new game in Ara: History Untold required players to make several important decisions before entering the world. I refined these flows to better organize information, clarify player choices, and create a more cohesive transition from menu navigation into gameplay.

Act Transitions

I designed and implemented interfaces supporting the transition between acts, creating moments that clearly communicated progression while reinforcing the game’s historical scope and pacing.
